You can improve your self in many ways reading books, doing positive things, helping other people or asking for help, however i want to tell you how emdr can help people improve their life and overcome addictions.
Emdr stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing which is a psychotherapy used to help recover from bad memories or difficult memories. People that have addictions like drugs, alcohol and many others use Emdr to change their traumatic memories to new health ones.
So what does self improvement has to do with emdr? a psychotherapist that used emdr will help the person remember their bad memories and tell what he feels, what are his emotions, what are his self beliefs, images, sensations.
Once the psychotherapist has identified the bad memories and the emotions attached to them, he will help the person change his bad memories for new healthy memories. The problem is that a person with an addiction even when he recovers still has difficult memories of the past or of a trauma that changed his life but with the proper treatment those can be changed.
So if you have a trauma or you had a traumatic event that you continue to recall on your mind and its causing you serious trouble in your life, emdr can help you make the change that will make a balance your emotions.
There are many other techniques or treatments for self improvement. If you think emdr can help you or you have difficult memories i suggest you check for therapist on emdr on your local town. However, if the kind of self help you need is different there are many books courses and techniques to improve your life.
